Friday’s Prompt: Books I Want to Re-read

1. Like Flames in the Night by Connilyn Cossette –
Strong-willed Tirzah wants to join her people in driving the enemy from the land of Israel and undergoes training for a secret mission inside the stronghold of Shechem. But soon after she has infiltrated the ruthless Aramean commander’s kitchen, she makes a reckless decision that puts her and her allies in grave danger.
Fresh off the battlefield, Liyam returns home to discover his beloved daughter is dead. After his vow to hunt down her killer leads to months of fruitless pursuit, his last hope is in a family connection that comes with strings attached. Strings that force him to pose as a mercenary and rescue an infuriating woman who refuses to leave her mission uncompleted.
When an opportunity to pave a path to a Hebrew victory arises, can Tirzah convince Liyam to fight alongside her in the refuge city of her birth? Or will Liyam’s thirst for vengeance outweigh his duty to his people, his God, and the woman he’s come to love?
I rarely get around to re-read anything, but there are a few that I’ve been really wanting to take some time to revisit. I’m actually currently rereading this one in print, and am so excited to be revisiting these characters after a few years. I first read this in… I think 2021?
2. Song of the Valley by Britt Howard –
Love blossoms in Montana’s Cascade Valley in a new small-town contemporary romance that will delight and capture your heart.
Samantha McCade has always had dreams bigger than the Montana sky. Fresh out of college, she’s ready to spread her wings and live a life of adventure and purpose. She doesn’t want anything to do with the small, nothing-exciting-ever-happens, mountain town of Cascade Valley, Montana. And she certainly doesn’t want anything to do with the handsome, rugged horse rancher who lives next door. After all, she blames Caleb Kane for the tragedy that changed the lives of her family years ago. On that day, she swore that she would despise him forever.
But for now, she’s back on her family’s cattle ranch. One last summer home. Before she tells her three overprotective brothers that she is moving to Europe. For good.
When the chance to advance her career falls right into her lap, Samantha knows she should jump at this golden opportunity. The only problem? She’ll have to work directly with Caleb Kane for the rest of the summer. Can she put aside her personal feelings just long enough to fulfill her dreams? Or will her heart betray her again, just as it did long ago?
This is another one that loved and would love to re-read. This year, at the start of the year I mentioned wanting to re-read Like Flames in the Night and Song of the Valley. I own this one in print too, so I might start it once I finish the other one, if time allows. Time is short, so Lord willing that is my plan.
3. Unworthy by Vanessa Hall –
One moment, one choice can change a life forever.
Two years ago, Evgeny Yurlov’s dreams shattered on the stage of the Bolshoi Theatre. Without many options, he lands a job—far different from ballet—and returns to Moscow. There, he’s reunited with old friends—friends who need his help as government scrutiny intensifies on Grace Baptist Church.
Sasha Dvornikova isn’t the woman she once was, but Dmitri Rykov’s shadow is relentless. Reminders of her past lurk everywhere, and her sins have branded her undeserving of a man like Evgeny.
As mounting danger surrounds both the church and his job, Evgeny finds past struggles reignited, struggles that reach even Sasha. Amidst so much darkness, will Truth prevail, or will Evgeny’s choices destroy him—and those he loves?
This is another one that I read a while back and loved. This whole series really, but this was one of my favorites at the time. I don’t own this one in print, sadly. Although I would love to, it just hasn’t worked out so far, but I do have the ebook, so maybe?
4. Lethal Standoff by DiAnn Mills –
Justice can be elusive. Family secrets can be deadly. The stakes are high, and the clock is ticking in a volatile criminal case filled with unanswered questions. And Carrington Reed is running short on time to piece together clues that will solve the puzzle.
Hostage negotiator Carrington Reed is called to the scene when reports come in that fifteen hostages are being held by the Kendrix brothers in an abandoned house in south Texas. When she arrives on site, Carrington quickly learns that the brothers are armed and refuse to release their victims, a group of undocumented immigrants, until the local police identify their father’s murderer.Working closely with Levi Ehrlich, a handsome investigative reporter who has covered some of Carrington’s negotiations in the past, she finds herself being undeniably drawn to him. Carrington digs deeper into the death of the Kendrixes’ father and begins to notice that some details surrounding his death aren’t adding up.As Carrington investigates the brothers’ claims and tries to piece together their motive for taking innocent people captive, it soon becomes clear that they are trying to hide something and that revenge for their father’s death may not be what they’re really bargaining for after all. To protect the hostages and ensure the brothers don’t carry out the rest of their sinister plot, Carrington must get to the bottom of one family’s secret and the truth they’re trying so hard to hide before time runs out.Award winning author DiAnn Mills delivers pulse-pounding romantic suspense about secrets, betrayal, and finding a path to forgiveness.
I’ve seen DiAnn Mills books around from time to time, but this was the first I’d read of hers and it really stuck with me.
5. To Bring You Back by Emily Conrad –
He’s determined to confront the past she’s desperate to forget.
Broke in more ways than one, the last thing Adeline Green can afford is for her now-famous high school crush to descend on her quiet life.
People in the small town of Lakeshore, Wisconsin, think of her as the hard-working church secretary or as the local food truck’s lunch-hour cashier. They’d never suspect the shame she’s hiding.
She attended high school with both the lead singer and the drummer of the rock band, Awestruck. In fact, she used to play in the band herself, but that was back before Awestruck made it big—and before her relationship with lead singer Gannon Vaughn took a turn that ultimately led to tragedy and heartbreak.
She’s living a different life now, but when Gannon shows up, he brings with him a public spotlight that threatens to expose her deepest regret. The closer she gets to him, the more she risks the carefully curated life that’s finally brought her a measure of peace.
Gannon Vaughn and his rock band, Awestruck, have conquered the music industry, but he can’t overcome his feelings for Adeline.
She may have been right to cut off contact between them years ago, but thanks to the grace of God, he’s a changed man. When he hears Adeline’s struggling, he sets out to turn her life around and win back the love he lost to poor choices eight years ago.
But when Gannon’s fame and their mutual regrets jeopardize their relationship anew, will grace be enough to bring them back to God and each other?
I loved this story when I first read it, last year (I think?) and have been wanting to read these sequel, but just haven’t gotten to it yet. Still, if I could, I’d love to read this one again at some point.
