A dreadful past she’s determined to blot from her memory, until an unexpected call from her mother beckons her home to Alton, Illinois. Returning home isn’t a risk she is willing to take, especially when she’s returning with a seven-year-old daughter no one knows about.

Head Detective Richard Blake is fearless and confident when it comes to his profession. However, an incident involving his best friend’s death still doesn’t sit well with him, no matter how many years pass. When the case emerges to the surface as Ms. Taylor arrives back in Alton, curiosity gets the best of Blake.

Richard is drawn to the single mom struggling with a past she can’t forgive. While Elizabeth is leery of him, her daughter is all for the handsome detective and the help he is willing to offer. Hello, and welcome to Books Less Travelled! I’m so glad to have you join us here today. To start off, care to tell us a little about yourself and the stories you write?

Hi there! First off, I am incredibly honored to be a guest here on your blog. Thank you so much for having me. I am a twenty-four-year-old Christian fiction author living in a small town nestled in the hills of West Virginia. I write stories rooted in redemption, grace, and the quiet beauty of second chances–all with the hope of pointing hearts to Christ.

When I’m not writing, I enjoy homemaking, spending time with my husband Brad, and leading a small group of teen girls in Bible study in the local area. I also co-own a candle business with my sister and treasure slow moments spent with loved ones. Through my words and daily life, my prayer is to inspire others to follow Jesus more intimately.

Whether I’m crafting heartfelt stories or pouring wax for a new candle scent, I seek to reflect the love and faithfulness of God in all I do.

That’s wonderful, and I can already see your heart for Jesus. I love that! I’m so excited to have the opportunity to get to know you more.

1. What is something you wish more people know about your books?

Funny you should ask, because this is something that has dwelt in the back of my mind for quite sometime now. When others hear the words romance author, most times they think of mushy gushy love stories, cliches, or even spice, etc. Not the first impression I desire to give readers looking into my books. I write inspirational Christian fiction romance, emphasis on inspirational. The prayer behind all of my books is that they never just tell a love story, but that they awaken something deep within the reader to pursue an intimate relationship with Christ.

Ooo, yes! We need more stories like this. Christian Fiction that points to Him as so needed and such a blessing to both the author and the readers! I’m so glad I discovered you and your stories.

2. What is your favorite thing about being an author? What’s the most difficult part for you?

There is something to be cherished about creating a fictional world where the imagination–and God–takes you on a journey! For me, it’s therapeutic to piece together words in beautiful ways that may inspire someone else. However, it is difficult at times to not fall into a trap of comparison with authors more experienced or more successful than I. But I thank God that He gives me everything required to complete what He has called me to do. He gives me grace to be faithful in the journey–MY journey–and to be able to give account with joy on that day when I finally arrive home.

What a testament to your faith. And it’s so true. He supplies all of our needs, we lack nothing as He is our everything. Amen! I love that you have that attitude and include your faith in your stories and writing journey as well. What a beautiful reminder to keep our eyes on Him and to trust that He will see us through, no matter what we face, He is always with us and always has a plan and a purpose for everything.

3. What do you love about being an author that people probably don’t realize?

I love this. I would say, maybe, the voice writing gives me. The voice for those who feel broken, too ashamed, anxiety-driven, or just plain hurt by others or by life. I love being able to extend a hand in the form of words as an invitation to discover the hope and redemption God has to offer.

Oh wow, I love that! We are called to be a light, and I think your summed up that calling pretty well here. To point people back to Him is such a beautiful blessing, and I love your heart for people that so clearly shines forth through your words.

4. What inspired the idea for your latest book?

Each story comes from the heart; from lessons I have learned in life and am learning in life. Like our dear main character, accepting true forgiveness was a struggle I dealt with for years. I felt too ashamed, as if my sin was too big and couldn’t be washed away or forgiven by the Lord. However, one restless night in my bedroom, the sweet Holy Spirit expressed that I was limiting a limitless God. What a heart-stopping moment this was for me! That night, I was able to put to rest the lies that Satan was attacking me with. There, at my bedside, I discovered a peace-filled freedom like none other. And everyone can experience it, too!

Wow, I got chills. God is amazing, and I love how He reaches down to each of us, on our level, and reminds us of Who He is! I love hearing about how God touches the hearts of His children and works in the the lives of His people. God is truly Awesome and worthy of all our praise!

 5. How has the process of writing and preparing to publish Finding Home Again differed from your previous books?

I can think of one big way this one has been different from my previous books–I was married whilst writing Finding Home Again, haha! Navigating writing in a new–busier–season of life was a challenge I couldn’t figure out for a while, but I’m so thankful for a loving husband who has encouraged me to keep writing!

That is a big change. Congrats! I’m happy for you! And I’m glad to hear that he supports your love of writing. May you both continue to be a blessing to each other and to others.

6. If you have unlimited time, money, and resources what would an ideal weekend getaway vacation intended for relaxation and a recharge look like for you?

Oh my! So many ideas, but my mind immediately goes somewhere calm, tropical with clear waters, my husband and puppy by my side as I read a good novel–no technology in sight!

That sounds amazing. The no tech is definitely a good idea. I’m sure you’d have a lovely time.

7. Are there any books or authors that inspire you as an author?

I always go back to The O’Malley Chronicles by Dee Henderson–the books that made me fall in love with Christian Mystery and Romance. I even go back to The Negotiator (the first book in the series) when I’m in a writing slump. Over and over that book–and the Bible!–reminds me of why I’m writing…to spread the Gospel to all.

Oh, I think I’ve heard of The O’Malley Chronicles, but will have to look them up. And the Bible is always a good choice. It truly is the answer for all things.

8. What is something unusual about your main character(s) that you love? What about them frustrates you the most?

I love Elizabeth and Richard’s real, raw struggles with forgiveness in Finding Home Again. Too often, characters are too polished and neat. Having them experience heartbreak, trauma, real life problems and struggle with them, then exposing them to the light is beautiful to me. Of course, this leads to drawing out struggles and my characters putting up guards, but you can’t let them have things too easy. Life never is! Haha! 😉

Haha, true! And I think it’s important for people to see that the struggle isn’t the problem. We need to learn to push through and do hard things sometimes. That’s how faith is grown, in the trials and challenges of life, when we choose to hold tight to Jesus and to allow His to pull us out on the other side? There’s some lessons that are only learned in the struggle, but they are some of the most precious and valuable lessons of all. What a wonderful reminder that we serve the Suffering Servant, Jesus Christ, Who taught us not to avoid the suffering but instead reminded us to rejoice, even when it seems impossible, because He’s with us and He will see us through. There’s a place for sweet and cozy stories, but the deeper one’s that tackle tough topics with faith. Leading in love and grace toward the eternal truth of Jesus and His love for us. Those are just as important, and sometimes teach lessons and offer reminders that we need in life that the lighter stories can’t.

9. What is something you love about writing Christian Fiction?

As I stated earlier, I don’t want to write to just entertain, that’s never the goal. I want my readers to feel something deeper, to finish my books with a yearning to grow closer to Christ. Writing Christian Fiction allows you to do that, and I’m grateful for it!

To God be the glory. I love this, and pray that He continues to bless you and your readers, using your stories to point them to Him as a part of your ministry. I absolutely love how nothing is too small or inconsequence for Him, He’s involved in every area of our lives, and if we all Him He can make all things glorify Him and draw us closer to Him as a result. I love seeing Him work in our lives, it’s truly amazing to catch even a glimpse of how much He loves us. I’m so excited to witness and be a part of His Kingdom when the time comes. It’s going to be even better than we can imagine!

10. Top five favorite tropes?

  • Second chance romance
  • Enemies to lovers
  • Forgiveness and healing
  • Opposites attract (but both love Jesus, haha!)
  • Fake relationship turned real

Oh, I love those too.
