I’D BOUGHT INTO THE EXCITEMENT OF A CHANCE TO MOVE TO ALASKA,
THEN LIFE’S UNEXPECTED TWISTS CHALLENGED MY FAITH IN DESTINY.

After our wedding rehearsal, my fiancé, James, suggests we roll the dice to decide our fate for his next teaching job. Leaving life’s decision to chance sounds like fun. However, will it align with my innate tendency for order?

Our adventure promises northern lights, snowflakes, and the wonder of Alaska. But luck gives us a double portion of both blessings and burdens that threaten to bury me in an avalanche of doubt and worry.

Will I be able to care for my family in the crucial moments, or am I destined to falter? Where do I turn for assuring direction in this uncertain game called life?

Alaskan Chance by Maryann Landers

Series: Alaskan Women of Caliber

I wasn’t sure about this one, and had I read it a couple of years ago, I’m aware that I might have enjoyed it a bit more. It wasn’t so much the story, as I just don’t like to have anything to do with chance, luck, fortune, games or otherwise. God is clear in His Word to avoid these things, and I tend to be even more aware of that lately than I used to be.

Because of that, I struggled to connect with the main characters at the beginning of the book, but after knowing how good Maryann Landers is at getting me to love her characters as I read on, I decided to ‘take a chance’ on this one too. I’m glad I did! It did take a couple of chapters to pull me in, but that seems about normal for me now when I read her books, and I’ve always ended up loving it by the end! This was no different, and I’m happy I got to meet these characters and go on this exciting journey with them. I really enjoyed getting to meet some of their friends along the way, and loved seeing them learn and grow as their story unfolds! (Rating 3.5)
