About the Book:
A suspenseful story of love, loss, and redemption.
A series of bad choices culminated in the worst day of Jamie Moreno’s life. Although she narrowly escaped her abusive boyfriend, he left her drowning in guilt over unspeakable secrets. Now, seven years later, she’s rebuilt a meaningful but lonely existence—and then one telephone call shatters her peace as her past threatens to destroy everyone she loves.
Staff Sergeant Kael Flynn is no stranger to standing between innocence and the evil men who seek to destroy it. On the cusp of trading in his combat boots for a quiet life, his final mission leaves him with a debt he can never repay. When he uncovers his fallen friend’s plan to keep a young woman safe, he sees a chance to do right by his fellow Marine. The last thing he anticipated was falling in love with the mysterious J. Moreno.
Will Jamie’s tormentor prove to be the one Kael can’t defeat before it’s too late?

My Review:
Already in the Kudzu by Hannah Hood Lucero
Rating: 4/5
Pages: 309
Published: November 10, 2023
Series: Sons of Vigilance
I recently heard of this series on bookstagram and was excited to read it! It didn’t take long to realize that Hannah Hood Lucero has a way with words! This book was very well written and easily held my attention from start to finish!
Jamie (Is that pronounced the normal way… I wasn’t sure since I know the ‘J’ sound is different in Spanish…yep, definitely overthinking this, lol!) and Kael (which I knew, but thank you for clarifying how to say this one, haha!) both were interesting characters, and I loved getting to know them and their stories. I’ll admit, this is one case they they definitely became better versions of themselves when they were together, but I still really liked them both even before they really started hanging out.
This one had some more modern references and pop-culture stuff (Including a brief mention of Metallica and similar bands…) that I personally could have done without, but they weren’t all that common and weren’t major parts of the story. I did enjoy the faith elements in this one, and loved the message of walking out our faith, healing and forgiveness, and seeing the characters praying for each other. (*Swoon!*) I also really loved the family themes in this one, and adored getting to meet their family (or at least some of them) in this first story!
I’m excited to read the rest of this series soon!. Actually, I’ll be skipping the next one, but I’m looking forward to the other two! I really enjoyed Lucero’s writing style, and adored the characters in Already in the Kudzu! I also found the source of the title entertaining and loved how it was included in the story! I also enjoy fun and creative titles and this one definitely fits that description!
