About the Book:
A pararescueman home from the military. A dog musher stepping into her dad’s legacy. Thrust together after years apart, can they trust each other and escape disaster?
Gunnar Rebel left the military to find healing, but adjusting to his new life proves harder than he expected.
His desire to help others ignited a desire to become a rescuer for the elite special forces. To qualify for the most arduous division in the military, he cut all ties with everyone but his family back home. Everyone … including Julie Sparks, the woman who still holds his heart. Now that he’s home, he wants to settle down and forget that his reasons for leaving Julie behind don’t make sense anymore.
Julie Sparks is determined to honor her father’s death with an arduous trek to the North Pole.
She also wouldn’t mind proving that she’s not only worthy of filling his fur-lined boots, but will climb to new heights in them. It’s more than just a matter of pride, not with the sponsors waiting to pull their funding if she fails. Establishing she’s worthy of support might prove harder than she expected when her ex, Gunnar Rebel, is brought in to help lead the expedition and shatters her focus.
When an accident on the trail turns life-threatening, will Gunnar and Julie put aside their hurt and broken promises of the past, or will their lack of trust prove fatal?

So, most of you know that Romance (even Romantic Suspense/Action) isn’t really my go-to or favorite genre, but I have been reading (and enjoying) them more lately, just on a highly picky and selective basis.
As such, I recently learned of this one, and it has several of the things and themes I’ve been enjoying lately, plus I was excited to try out a new author! I actually really enjoyed his one, and loved these characters! I haven’t read the previous book, featuring Gunner’s brother, yet, but these work beautifully as stand alones as well, and had no trouble reading this one! (I did read A Rebel’s Heart just before reading this, but likewise isn’t needed to read the other books)
I enjoyed this story, but my favorite part might just be seeing Gunner and Julie both overcome their shared past, and seeing them forced to think ahead and made better decisions for their future if this adventure is to ever have a chance! I loved getting to see both their thoughts on their struggles, and seeing how the eventually adjusted and responded in a way that truly showed them working together as a team.
I also really loved Sunny, she’s both a fun sister character and a great friend, and between her and Saylor I can’t choose a favorite! Both were a blast to meet and definitely kept things interesting with their polar opposite natures and personalities! One thing I hope to see in future books is Tiikaan’s story! He only appeared briefly in this one, but it’s clear he has a story of his own to tell, so while I’m eager to read more about Sunny, I’m hoping he gets his chance to tell his own story at some point as well!
