I first heard of this one on StoryOrigin, but ended up finding it on Goodreads. It was a quick read, and had potential, but ended up feeling a little clunky in execution. The story shows a series of scenes from two perspectives, by repeating the scene in the alternative POV. This could work in some cases, but just served to lengthen an already rushed story with unhelpful scenes. This could have been a good book, but as a novella, the topic and focus seemed to be rushed and lacked the depth required to really have lasting meaning.
The concept of putting God first and trusting His timing are both worthy focus topics, and great story can and have been written of these issues. But one so short is difficult to achieve a lasting message on this. Sadly, that was the case for me in this one. I appreciate the effort made, but was left unsatisfied and feeling as if the story was both rushed and overly wordy, with no real meaning or lesson to offer. The ending was also open-ended, possibly because this was intended as a prequel to lead into the main series. So, that in itself isn’t so much an issue, but there was lead up, but no actual resolution to the problems that the characters face, or the consequences that arise along the way. It’s an interesting story and quick read, but has unmet potential to be something more. But, if it’s something you think sounds interesting, and are looking for a quick novella, give this one a try.
