Okay, maybe it’s time for a confession… I don’t do ‘buddy reads’. There, I said it. I tend to be a loner, and my reading style can best be summed up as chaotic. You know, as in I read a book all at once within a few days, or a little bit, then don’t pick it up again for a few months? Yeah… (Side-eyes my ‘Currently Reading’ pile…) That said, here are a few that I think would be fun if I were capable of committing to a buddy read, and are also books I’m sure I’ll want to talk about when I read them. (Isn’t that part of the fun of a buddy read?)
A Rumored Fortune by Joanna Davidson Politano –
Tressa Harlowe’s father did not trust banks, but neither did he trust his greedy extended family. He kept his vast fortune hidden somewhere on his estate in the south of England and died suddenly, without telling anyone where he had concealed it. Tressa and her ailing mother are left with a mansion and an immense vineyard and no money to run it. It doesn’t take long for a bevy of opportunists to flock to the estate under the guise of offering condolences. Tressa knows what they’re really up to. She’ll have to work with the rough and rusticated vineyard manager to keep the laborers content without pay and discover the key to finding her father’s fortune–before someone else finds it first.
I really don’t know anything about this one. I just know it has made a sudden resurgence on bookstagram, and it sounds like something I’d normally enjoy?
Wells and Wanderers by Christine Dillon –
Sometimes freedom and family are found in unexpected places.
Inanna, an Amorite chieftain’s daughter, craves to be free as the eagles that fly above her hometown.
Utu, her loyal twin, just wants to keep his wayward sister out of trouble.
Neither succeeds, and their dreams are uprooted as they’re sold into slavery. During their forced travels, they encounter nations they’d only known from stories, palaces beyond description, and fickle kings claiming to be all-powerful deities.
Yet when serving the wandering household of Avram and Sarai from Ur, they encounter a mystery god intent on upturning national boundaries, calling new loyalties, and directing the eyes of his followers to dreams vaster than the star-filled sky.
But what has this god of unexpected paths and promises to offer two Amorite slaves?
I have been wanting to read one of the later books in this series for a while now. I actually have this one in ebook now, but I don’t have any of the other books yet. It sounds like an interesting series, though, and I would love to read it or find some others who have (or who want to) read it.
From Ice to Home by Ann J. David –
“I don’t think I’ll ever not be a small town girl,” she says. “I mean, look at me.”
I’ve been looking at her this entire time and I can’t not see her. From the small freckles across her nose to the perfect bow above her lips. “I am looking at you.”
Hannah I thought I had my life all figured out—graduate school, a dream job, and finally stepping out from the shadow of my small-town upbringing. But running into Lucas Walker, my high school sweetheart and now the star player for the NY Rangers, in the middle of Las Vegas turned my carefully laid plans upside down. One impulsive moment, one ocean of emotions, and now…we’re married.
Lucas Hockey has been my life for the past five years—a fast-paced, all-consuming escape that helped me forget the girl who shattered my heart. Or so I thought. Seeing Hannah again, in the most unexpected place, brought every feeling I buried rushing back. One night, one decision, and suddenly, we’re navigating a life I’d only dreamed of having with her.
From small-town South Carolina to the bright lights of New York City, Hannah and Lucas navigate the highs and lows of an unexpected marriage. Amidst rekindled feelings, viral headlines, and family complications—they must face what they mean to each other, and if love and faith can guide them through this second chance. Their story is one of heart, healing, and holding on to the hope of forever.
I want to read the sequel, but ended up getting a copy of both free on Smashwords as part of their end-of-year sale, and now I really want to read this one too! It seems like one that would make for a fun buddy read.
Prairie Gold by Deanna Koch –
Amid simpler days and changing winds, Edith Anne dreams of independence. She longs to make her own choices and escape the rules and expectations of her small town’s society, but when her world falls apart, she finds herself tied to Bad Heart in a way she couldn’t have ever imagined. Will she be able to overcome the fears that plague her past and future?
In the late 1930s, Ben is focused on establishing himself as a rancher in Alberta. His family has worked hard to make a home and a life here, and Ben intends to build a legacy, but his trajectory alters when Edith comes into his life. Will he be able to break through her walls and teach her that she is worthy of love? When World War II calls, will their uncertain relationship survive it?
Will they be able to overcome the scars of the past and let God’s eternal love become the center of their relationship?
I have been excited for this one from the moment I was the author revealing the cover, and now it’s officially out! It’s still relatively new and unknown, which makes it the perfect buddy read kind of story, no?
Preacher on the Run by Jayna Baas –
Standing for truth could cost him his freedom. Fighting for freedom could cost him his life.
It’s 1771, and revolution is on the horizon. Frontier preacher Robert Boothe has spent the last four years leading resistance against North Carolina’s corrupt British government.
All he wants is a place for his people to worship God without fear. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect them—and his wife and young daughter. They’ve always known the danger, but he never meant to test their faith as much as his own.
But when Colonel Charles Drake arrives in their settlement, silencing Robert is his best chance to win the governor’s favor. And Robert refuses to back down.
On one side stands the power of the Crown. On the other stands a man of daring conviction. When his family and flock are caught in the crossfire, how far will Robert go to keep them safe?
This one actually got a facelift recently through Kickstarter, but I had been curious about this series even before that. The facelift definitely reignited my desire to read these though, and I think a buddy read would be a great way to celebrate this new edition for America’s 250th birthday.

Ooo, Prairie Gold looks good, and I want to read that Politano book too! I’ve read the Jayna Baas book a few years ago when it first published—I think you’d like it 🙂

Thanks so much for joining the party! It was great having you. 😉 Also, I am a chaotic reader sometimes too.
