She’s marrying her childhood friend. But neither of them are in it for love.

Elise Hart will do anything to care for her younger brothers after their parents die. Her only regret is that she is woefully untrained for the task—Something made abundantly clear by the aunt trying to win custody. Elise needs a husband who can help her convince the judge. But the only one she can think of isn’t really the ‘settling down’ type.

Garrett Macklin is going to spend the rest of his life as a bachelor. Nothing will distract him from his dreams for the ranch. But when his lifelong friend proposes out of desperation, how can he say no?

Determined to maintain a platonic marriage, Garrett and Elise protect her family while the lines of companionship and romance blur more each day.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, since even those I read three of the previous four books (I ended up skipping Hawks…) I still didn’t know much about Garrett. That said, he really surprised me in this one, and can honestly say it’s been my favorite so far in the series!

I really liked the previous books, and getting to know all the Macklins with each books, but this one stood out. I loved seeing the character growth in this one, and also felt that their faith and belief’s were a somewhat bigger focus here. It’s still not a major part of the story, but definitely a little more present as they struggle to find a way to work things out and to become the person they were meant to be. To grow up a little, and to move forward, together.

The overall themes in this one were a bit heavier and that might have contributed to the slightly different tone and pacing of this one, but it worked well, and I have noticed the series growing stronger as it goes on as well. That makes me all the more excited to know there’s two more books for this one! I’m beyond excited to see what the next two hold, and am happy to know the next one is now available for pre-order!

When I started this one, I wasn’t sure if this was the end of the series (or if the other two might have been included in another series, or were going to be) so Hannah Jo’s recent announcement about the continuation of this series came at the perfect time! I’m so excited for her, and encourage anyone who hasn’t started this series yet, or who hasn’t caught up to consider doing that now! Summer is a perfect time for these (or really any season would do!) this is a fun series, and each are fairly quick and easy reads!
